About North Dakota HOSA

HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to all people.

North Dakota HOSA has 528 members, 21 advisors, and 16 local chapters.

State Officers

Preeti Chemiti, President

Preeti Chemiti Preeti Chemiti is a rising senior at Sheyenne High School in West Fargo. Besides HOSA, Preeti is actively engaged in several activities such as orchestra, student council, varsity tennis, speech, debate, student congress, National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, and Academic Olympics. Within her community, Preeti also loves to volunteer and inflict positive change through her non-profit, "Be Kind to the Mind," which distributes hundreds of mental healthcare packages throughout the state, as well as serving on the Imagine Thriving Student Board and as a member of the State Superintendent of Public Education’s Student Cabinet. This past summer, Preeti spent her time attending the National Speech and Debate Tournament, HOSA International Leadership Conference, Girls State, and Girls Nation, which were all programs where she received several national accolades. Preeti loves the altruistic values of HOSA and getting to meet members on a local, state, and national level. She looks forward to serving as your 2018-2019 HOSA State President!

Brendon Gibson, President-Elect

Brendon Gibson Brendon Gibson is a sophomore at Killdeer High School. He is an active member in many clubs such as Robotics, Student Council, Science Olympiad, HOSA-Future Health Professionals, and Save North Dakota Trails. After high school, Brendon plans to attend Duke University and aspires to become an anesthesiologist. He is a funny, sharp and intelligent student who strives on helping others accomplish their dreams. Brendon is the 2018-2019 State President-Elect and looks forward to continued years of leadership with HOSA!

Dhruvika Patel, Eastern Region Vice President

Dhruvika Patel Dhruvika Patel is a senior at West Fargo Sheyenne High School. Besides being involved in HOSA, she also participates in Speech, Debate, Student Congress, National Honor Society, Tennis, Sinfonia Orchestra, Student Ambassadors, Science Olympiad, and the Academic Olympics. Along with being a HOSA officer, she holds office positions for National Honor Society, Speech, Debate, and Student Ambassadors. In the summer of 2017, Dhruvika was in a 6-week science program at Governor's School held at NDSU where she got to help conduct research. Last year, she enjoyed working on a project with her friends in HOSA called "Be Kind to the Mind" where they were able to raise money for people suffering with mental illnesses. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at hospitals and old age homes, watching movies, rollerblading with her friends and younger brother, and traveling. She aspires to go into the medical field one day as a pediatrician or neonatologist.

Garrett Calkins, Western Region Vice President

Garrett Calkins Garrett Calkins is a senior at Killdeer High School. Aside from HOSA, Garrett is involved in Track & Field, Cross Country, Robotics, Science Olympiad, Band, and Choir. Garrett is also involved in community service projects and is training to become an emergency medical responder. After his graduation in 2019, he plans to study Medicine at the University of North Dakota and later pursue a career in neurology. In his free time, he loves to run, read, and help others.
